BINOCULAR STILL THE BEST AROUND

EVEN picking bankers in this year's Select A Cheltenham Stable tipping competition is not easy, with nothing odds-on, but Binocular is the best hurdler around at his best and will still take plenty of beating on last year's form, so he'll do for me.

Oscars Well has been the most impressive novice hurdler in Ireland this season and can take care of the home team plus what looks a weak British challenge in the Neptune.

Spirit Son looked a hurdler of immense potential when slamming a decent rival at Exeter and can take care of Cue Card and co in the Supreme Novices', while the next two on my list are handicappers with plenty to recommend them.

Bensalem would have won the Stewart Family Spinal Research Handicap Chase last season but for falling out and, off the same handicap mark, which is 10lb lower than over hurdles, he has a huge chance of going one better.

Paul Nicholls' Definity is definitely one to be with for the Centenary Novices' Handicap Chase on Tuesday. His chase mark is ludicrously generous considering he was almost a stone higher over hurdles.

Somersby has a decent chance in the Champion Chase, and probably a better one in the Ryanair if connections change their minds, though that wouldn't help my ante-post portfolio.

Final Approach has been kept back for the County Hurdle by Willie Mullins, so I'm taking the hint there, while Alan King's Oh Crick looks handicapped to take the Grand Annual for the second time in three years.

Mr Gardner's jumping should prove a real asset in a competitive Jewson, and the tough Kilcrea Kim is not without a chance if translating the best of his handicap form to the Albert Bartlett.

Of the outsiders, Dan Breen could ruffle a few feathers in a weak Arkle with blinkers applied, while The Giant Bolster will not be the 200-1 shot in the RSA that he was when a close sixth in last season's Neptune.
