DENMAN SCOOPS TROMANS THE JACKPOT!

LEE TROMANS, a furniture sales consultant from Brierley Hill, near Dudley in the West Midlands, has landed the first prize of £20,000 in our Select A Stable contest, by just two points.

Tromans, 47, made sure of victory in the betdirect-sponsored tipping competition, when his second banker, Denman, won the Gold Cup, and Kauto Star, his final selection, came second.

"This is completely unexpected," he said. "I only made two entries, submitted the first day it went in the paper, and I'm a regular player in Select A Stable and also the Ten to Follow, but I've never featured before - in fact I've never won as much as £100 on a bet, so to win £20,000 is amazing."

FRIDAY'S NEWS FROM CHELTENHAM...

Tromans and his wife Angela have two children - Mark, 20, and Becky, 18, and he said: "The money couldn't come at a better time. Some of it will pay for the final year of Mark's law studies at university, while Becky is expecting a baby in May, so that'll be expensive, too!"

Tromans scored 134 points with his ten selections. His other winners were Inglis Drever (banker), Tidal Bay, Katchit, Albertas Run, Master Minded and Celestial Halo. Last night he was heading for a family celebration at a fund-raising skittles night. "I think we'll manage to sink a few beers after this," he added.
